Geothermal screw heat exchanger senior design project

In Progress

Senior Design Project

A yearlong capstone project completed by a team of four students alongside a corporate sponsor. We are designing, testing, and validating a patent-pending geothermal screw heat exchanger that replaces the condenser in a traditional HVAC system by exchanging heat with the ground. If successful, the system could offer homeowners a less expensive and more accessible alternative to conventional geothermal ground loops.

Energy-related engineering request for proposal project

In Progress

ME4400: HDR Request for Proposal

A special projects class in collaboration with HDR that tasks us to evaluate the siting and feasibility of a 50 MW energy installation. We are analyzing potential sites and technologies before developing three microgrid configurations with distinct strengths and tradeoffs. The project considers not only engineering feasibility, but also the social, political, and economic needs of a fictional Burning Man community. Working in pairs, our RFP will be presented at the end of the semester to upper management from HDR.

Pelton wheel power-generation system installed at a cabin

In Progress

Pelton Wheel Turbine

A garden-hose-powered Pelton wheel turbine to be designed, manufactured, and tested for power output and efficiency. The image shown is the micro-grid system at a friend's cabin, and serves as the insipration for the whole project.

Metal casting furnace prepared for future casting projects

In Progress

Miscellaneous Metal Castings

An ongoing collection of metal parts that I plan to produce using my recently completed casting furnace. These experiments will allow me to explore new patterns, mold geometries, and casting techniques while continuing to improve the furnace and my overall casting process.
